It's definitely not supposed to happen, but it does ... having favourites. The print version of this design on the blue background is definitely a favourite. I love the warm, arts and crafts feel this design and colourway has.
This was the first design that I planned as a repeat pattern with different colours in it - the actual process is relatively simple, when compared with say Indian block printed fabric, with their many overprints of multiple colours, but for my small printing table it's enough.
My farm-field surrounded garden - I'm not sure I can call it a garden really, its a bit of a field itself where I mostly unsuccessfully try to get a bit of structure into marauding blackberry, nettles, ivy, dandelion and ground elder - but it is lovely to sit in. Anyway, I have pockets of self seeded primroses in the grass and I love them, popping out little patches of pale yellow in the spring sunshine, before the blackberry takes off. At roughly the same time there is often a mass of bluebells, and the colours compliment each other so well.
This design involved creating a repeating pattern block with the primrose motif's with a couple of little bees... I'm blessed with some ground dwelling critters too. Where the central bluebell is situated in the primroses, I left that blank and carved out the gap. The bluebell went on a separate lino block and for this one I created a tiny bee block as well. That little bee is pretty darn cute and I add it to all sorts of things.
Each block of colour is then printed... on the green print, I did a single yellow flower on the block - it is quite time consuming, but is really good slow work.
This is a beautiful fabric for a lampshade - I've lined this one with a bright light blue, which makes a lovely contrast, and the navy fringing compliments perfectly.
